Summary

Don’t you just love the smell of old books in the morning?

Madeline Moore does。 Books & Moore, the musty bookstore her family has owned for generations, is where she feels most herself。 Nothing is going to stop her from coming back after college to take over the store from her beloved aunt。

Nothing, that is—until a chain bookstore called Prologue opens across the street and threatens to shut them down。

Madeline sets out to demolish the competition, but Jasper, the guy who works over at Prologue, seems intent on ruining her life。 Not only is he taking her customers, he has the unbelievable audacity to be… extremely cute。

But that doesn’t matter。 Jasper is the enemy and he will be destroyed。 After all—all’s fair in love and (book) wars。

i don’t think i’ve ever disliked a book like this before。 just because the plot is enemies to lovers doesn’t mean the characters have to be downright awful to each other。 jasper was SO MEAN to madeline。 seriously, if he said any of that shit to me i would have burst into tears。 he’s such a brat and always hit her where it hurt with his words。 acridly joking about her book store shutting down when she’s clearly upset about it??? wtf? characters can be brash but it’s only forgivable if they show r i don’t think i’ve ever disliked a book like this before。 just because the plot is enemies to lovers doesn’t mean the characters have to be downright awful to each other。 jasper was SO MEAN to madeline。 seriously, if he said any of that shit to me i would have burst into tears。 he’s such a brat and always hit her where it hurt with his words。 acridly joking about her book store shutting down when she’s clearly upset about it??? wtf? characters can be brash but it’s only forgivable if they show remorse about it。 he never once apologized for all the mean pranks and shit he said。 i hate that madeline fell for him。 homegirl should’ve left his miserable ass and gone off to college and met someone way better。 。。。more

This book was cute。 But also there was spots where it was just added in to get extra pages。 To make The book longer。 Overall it was cute and I liked the ending。 It just was okay for me

Madeline Moore just graduated from high school。 She is enjoying working at her family’s bookstore - Books and Moore。 Madeline grew up in this bookstore with her half-brother and Astrid, her aunt and the owner of the store。 Astrid stood in as a mom when Madeline and Benny’s biological mom went off to California trying to be an actress and failing to be a parent。 But things get hard as a chain bookstore: Prologue opens across the street, stealing all of Books and Moore’s customers and threatening Madeline Moore just graduated from high school。 She is enjoying working at her family’s bookstore - Books and Moore。 Madeline grew up in this bookstore with her half-brother and Astrid, her aunt and the owner of the store。 Astrid stood in as a mom when Madeline and Benny’s biological mom went off to California trying to be an actress and failing to be a parent。 But things get hard as a chain bookstore: Prologue opens across the street, stealing all of Books and Moore’s customers and threatening the store to close。 Madeleine is determined to shut Prologue down - but with Jasper Hamada working at Prologue, sparks fly, making things harder。 Later, Astrid tells her mom is coming back for good which complicates things for her。 Madeline tries to forgive her biological mother while also dealing with the bookstore, friend problems, and family problems。 She is given eye-opening multiple times throughout the book which changes her。 I loved the relationship between Jasper and Madeline since they always fought and sabotaged each other's bookstores。 I liked Madeline’s biological mom’s character development but didn’t appreciate Madeline’s attitude toward her。 I loved the showcase of a family’s problems, and in that way, it might be relatable for some people。 Overall, I loved the enemies-to-lovers dynamic in this book。 I would rate this book 4 stars because I didn't like Madeline's attitude at times。 The book itself is really good because of the setting in a bookstore and the enemies-to-lovers relationship between Jasper and Madeline。 I also loved the competition between the two stores。 。。。more

This had a good enemies to lovers romance and felt like it had multiple things going on that made the plot interesting。 I think the only thing I didn't like is that it was YA, or at least the characters were only 18。 I think this would have had greater potential if it was NA。 This had a good enemies to lovers romance and felt like it had multiple things going on that made the plot interesting。 I think the only thing I didn't like is that it was YA, or at least the characters were only 18。 I think this would have had greater potential if it was NA。 。。。more

i am in love with everything about this book。 The arguments, pranks, character development, and that ending was just so SO good。 The characters feels so human with how they're written because they act appropriately to their age and the trauma they have。 I may have yelled a couple of times while reading because some lines just //hits// the feelings and leaves you giddy but there were also times i would yell NO DUMMY as if they could hear me but for me that's what made it great。 I just think how t i am in love with everything about this book。 The arguments, pranks, character development, and that ending was just so SO good。 The characters feels so human with how they're written because they act appropriately to their age and the trauma they have。 I may have yelled a couple of times while reading because some lines just //hits// the feelings and leaves you giddy but there were also times i would yell NO DUMMY as if they could hear me but for me that's what made it great。 I just think how they react feels so human, it's very real and I LOVED IT。 I had such an amazing time reading this!I held this book once at a bookstore and thought it was pretty cute but couldn't get it because budget of being an adult and when i came back for it it was gone, i had to special order it from the bookstore here and im so glad i did。 I really enjoyed reading this and i cant wait to see what Kelsey Rodkey has next, she's definitely in my authors i will look out for in the future! 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I loved this book。 The enemies-to-lovers troupe was very well executed throughout this story。 There was nothing I didn’t like。 It was also very easy for me to visualize this story。 I enjoyed the banter between Jasper and Madeline, and seeing how their relationship progressed from rivals to friends to more than friends, back to rivals, then back to more than friends。 Overall, I would definitely recommend this book。

If I could give this less than 1 star, I would。 This was a "hate" read for me, as in I couldn't stand the idea of leaving another book unfinished so I read the whole thing but hated all of it。 Omg so whiney and annoying! Nothing is ever good enough for Madeline and she fits in every single stereotypical teenage trope, except she has zero redeeming qualities。 She goes from 0 to 60 constantly, assuming everyone is out to get her。 Really wish I had left this as a DNF。 If I could give this less than 1 star, I would。 This was a "hate" read for me, as in I couldn't stand the idea of leaving another book unfinished so I read the whole thing but hated all of it。 Omg so whiney and annoying! *3。75“Enjoy it while it lasts because nothing lasts forever”This book was a ton of fun to read。 I love the enemy to lovers trope and it was no different in this book。 The book store setting was so nostalgic and one my favorite things to have in books。 If you are wanting a fun and fast paced contemporary that has a book theme in it the look no further this one is amazing。

Super cute YA romance! Loved the rivalry and the characters。 I appreciate the fact that Madeline is not the typical skinny romance main character and love that our love interest, Jasper, is Asian American it’s nice to see the representation although I think YA does a way better job at this than Adult romance。 (Listened by audiobook) solid 4 stars!

Angie

A quick, funny read。 I wasn’t a fan of the Promotion of underage drinking and that there weren’t really repercussions from said drinking。 I thought was a little irresponsible by the author。 Generally I liked the humor though and it was a good summer read。

Maggie Painter

I really enjoyed this book! Madeline is such a fiery character and relatable character。 I really enjoyed the bickering and pranks between Japer and Madeline。 Their bookstore rivalry is what made me read this book! I devoured this book as quickly as I could, and I couldn’t stop talking about it with my friends。 Great writing for an amazing book!

Julia

New Adult (?) romance。 Enemies-to-lovers。Cute, but a bit too much angsty inner monologue for me。 Which is totally age appropriate for the 17/18 y/o main character。
